Did rapper Snoop Dogg show support for country artist Jason Aldean when his “Try That in a Small Town” video sparked controversy? Keep reading for all the details on the rumor.

Jason Aldean’s Defenders

Jason Aldean released the song “Try That in a Small Town” as the first single from his Highway Desperado album in May 2023. Critics quickly took aim at the song for allegedly having lyrics that promoted gun violence.

When the music video was released a month later, the criticism expanded to allegations that the video had racist undertones. The video featured footage from the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests and was filmed at a courthouse in Tennessee that was the site of a lynching in 1927.

Jason Aldean has since expressed regret over the filming location but stands by the song and video. In response to public backlash, CMT removed the video from rotation.

The singer had made defenders, including Joe Rogan and Trace Adkins.

One social media post claimed that rapper Snoop Dogg supported Jason Aldean during the controversy. Is that true?

Rapper Snoop Dogg Shows Support For Jason Aldean?

A Jason Aldean supporter shared a headline in August 2023 that claimed Snoop Dogg ended his own contract with CMT after Jason Aldean’s video was removed.

The fan expressed surprise at the news, writing they “did not see that coming.”

They were probably surprised because it’s not true. Snoop Dogg never showed support for the “She’s Country” singer by cutting ties with CMT.

Online sleuths at Snopes.com tracked down the source of the rumor. The article was posted on SpaceXMania, a satire site that has tricked people before.

The website describes its content as “freshest fake news, some sassy analysis, and a good dose of satire.”

Despite this disclaimer, some internet users continue to share news from the site as if it were factual.

Snoop Dogg & CMT

That doesn’t mean Snoop Dogg doesn’t have a connection to country music. In 2012, he was nominated for a CMA in the Musical Event of the Year category for his collaboration with Willie Nelson on “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die.”

Snoop Dogg took the stage at Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday celebration to perform the song with the icon.

However, Snopes revealed that they couldn’t find any information about a contract between CMT and the rapper at all.
