Wynonna Judd Channels Her Late Mother During Performance

Wynonna Judd’s first appearance on Austin City Limits was with her mother, Naomi Judd, in 1985. At the time, the mother-daughter duo were performing together as The Judds. They disbanded in 1991 and Wynonna Judd pursued a successful solo career. The Judds reunited often over the years and were planning a tour in late 2022.

Sadly, Naomi Judd died by suicide in April 2022 after a long battle with mental health issues. Wynonna Judd honored the tour dates despite grieving for her late mother. According to American Songwriter, she told the Austin City Limits audience that touring helped her heal from the massive loss.

“I am a woman of faith, and that has been tested these past two years. I lost my momma to suicide, and when she died, I thought I would die of a broken heart. So, instead, I went on tour. A lot of people didn’t understand why. I now understand it’s because the music healed me, and the fans supported me through a very difficult time in my life.”

Wynonna Judd’s 11-set song included a solo rendition of The Judds’ 1988 hit “Give A Little Love.” But she wasn’t alone on the stage. She channeled her mother at the start of the song. “My momma was such a little prissy butt. She moved like this,” she joked before mimicking her mom’s habit of swaying her arms side-to-side while singing.

Wynonna Judd released her latest album, Back to Wy: Live in September. Fans can see her live in concert in Las Vegas on December 11, 13, and 14.
