Although Kelsea Ballerini broke into country music in 2014, she wasted no time proving her talent as she continually topped the charts. Her debut single, Love Me Like You Mean It, hit number one, making her the first female to land the spot with a debut single since Carrie Underwood. Not stopping there, she hit number one two more times. While Ballerini seemed made for country fame, her love life also blossomed when Morgan Evans asked to marry her on Christmas Day in 2016. Surprisingly, in 2022, the couple decided to divorce. And with rumors circulating, Ballerini recently discussed the marriage and how she feels about the future.
Dealing With Karens
With the relationship behind her, Kelsea Ballerini seemed focused on her future in country music as she released her EP, Rolling up the Welcome Mat, in February. The EP shined a light on her marriage to Evans and the hardships she faced. While the marriage didn’t work out, the singer suggested it was part of growing up. “Your 20s are for self-discovery, for f**king up, for trying your best, for succeeding in some ways and for failing in others. And I did that. I did all of that and I stand by it. I experienced so much that I was lucky to get to do in my 20s, to travel the world like I’ve gotten to, to have experiences with people that I have.”
While Kelsea Ballerini found “peace” with the outcome, she recalled the backlash she received online. She revealed how “conservative Karens” sent her messages, claiming she didn’t try hard enough to make the marriage work. At the time, the words seemed to hurt the singer. “I have spent so much of my life contorting myself to be palatable for everyone. I thought that made me a good woman.” She continued, “I thought that made me a good artist. However, it does not make me a good person.”
Kelsea Ballerini didn’t stop there, insisting she wasn’t for everyone. “I care way more about being able to sleep at night knowing that I’m showing up for myself and what I believe in and the things that make my heart beat. And I’m not meant for everyone.”
Kelsea Ballerini’s Outlook On The Marriage
In a much better place mentally, Kelsea Ballerini hinted how turbulent her life was just a year ago. “This time last year, my life felt very out of control. A bit messy. I just felt in the weeds in a lot of things.”

As some criticized Kelsea Ballerini for her decision, the singer appeared in great spirits. And as for the failed marriage, she said, “I can truly, from my guts, say I regret literally nothing. I really don’t.”
