It’s no surprise where Miley Cyrus derives her immense musical talent and compassionate heart.  Her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, earned the first triple-platinum single in Australia and dang near every other point on the globe in 1992.  “Achy Breaky Heart” rode the top of every radio playlist and country music chart, and then crossed over to the pop world, with Billy Ray’s stylish mullet fully intact.

Miley Cyrus and her extended family still make their home on the sprawling, but still rustic family compound in Tennessee where Billy Ray invested a big portion of that rapidly flowing income as a young man.  The singer, songwriter, actor, and producer is celebrating another hugely successful milestone lately, as Broadway World notes.  His “Old Town Road” collaboration with Lil Nas X has garnered the highest-ever 13x Diamond-certified status by RIAA (the Recording Industry Association of America).

Still crossing genres with a touch of Kentucky sensibility, Billy Ray Cyrus has several upcoming performances of LL Cool J’s hip-hop classic, “Mama Said Knock You Out,” featured on his latest EP, The Singin’ Hills Sessions-Mojave.  While her dad is singing about “Mama,” Miley Cyrus is lavishing love and praise on her mom, Tish, as confirmed in a Showbiz Cheat Sheet feature.  The Cyrus family line has a history of raising strong, creative adult kids who aren’t afraid to speak their minds or listen to their hearts.

Miley Cyrus gets a lot more than looks from her gorgeous mother

Even though the Cyrus clan is famous for taking up entire rows at award shows, Leticia “Tish” Cyrus has never been taken by the stage.  She and Billy Ray Cyrus married shortly after Miley was born.  With an uncommon commitment for a new husband, Billy Ray adopted his bride’s two kids from an earlier relationship and they took his name.  Following in the family’s creative tradition came easily.  Trace is a guitarist for Metro Station and Brandi now hosts a podcast and has had some acting parts. Miley Cyrus also had Dolly Parton as her godmother, and to this day Miley considers Dolly to be an angel on earth in the way she lives out kindness to every person she meets.

Tish and Billy Ray added a son and daughter of their own to the family, Braison and Noah. Braison is an actor and composer whose latest album, Heart Is Gold, released this year.  The 20-year-old Noah was named as one of Time magazine’s Most Influential Teens in 2017 and made her mark with song, “Make Me (Cry).” By all accounts, Miley Cyrus relishes her role as a “cool” older sister. Each of the kids has a strong sense of grounding in being family and in their mom’s steadfast belief in their individual passions and personhood.

To look at Miley Cyrus and her mom side-by-side is to almost see a mirror image.  The same translucent blue-green eyes, the lovely smiles, and the love between mother and daughter speak everything.  Tish has taken on the role of advisor and manager in Miley’s career. It’s clear that the maternal trait for tenacity transferred to all her children.  A mother is the most trusted ally most children will ever have—including super-successful ones.

Tish got a tribute in song from Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus has openly stated that she’s not sure if motherhood will ever be included in her future plans.  That doesn’t stop a devoted daughter from proclaiming her love and gratitude in her own tribute to Tish Cyrus.  In 2019, the “Midnight Sky” singer included “Mother’s Daughter” in the EP, She Is Coming, the precursor to her album, Plastic Hearts, set for release on November 27.

Miley being the unapologetic Miley Cyrus that she is, many of the tracks feature explicit language, but there’s total love exuded in the daughter’s verse dedicated to her mom.

“Must be something in the water/Or that I’m my mother’s daughter,” repeats one lyric.

“My mama always told me that I’d make it
That I’d make it, so I made it
I put my back into it, my heart in it
So I did it, yeah, I did it,” follows the verse by Miley Cyrus extolling motherly conviction.

In a touching scene from the video, Miley sings the verse to her mother, resting her head on Tish’s shoulder.

Miley Cyrus paid a tender tribute to her dad in her 2017 song, “Inspired.”  She fondly reminisced “coming home with muddy feet” after playing with her father “all day in the creek.” Dad and daughter still share a kindred connection to land, nature, and each other.

Her mom inspired the love of sculpting in Miley Cyrus

Moms can steer daughters in all sorts of ways, but Miley Cyrus disclosed during a 2020 feature in Interview magazine how her mother’s story had prompted her to express herself through sculpture. Miley was enticed by the idea of “making art out of things that didn’t mean anything to anyone else, things that were considered trash.”  The daughter elaborated that her mom was “adopted, in a sense, given away, and she didn’t feel a lot of value. But I totally worship her.”

Tish Cyrus is abundantly proud of Miley’s healthier turn in life, too.  Mom told the Chicks in the Office podcast that Miley Cyrus has kicked her penchant for pot and now uses only CBD.

“She’s the cleanest person I know.  She’s just so solid, praised the parent.  She described her daughter’s healthy diet and routine of yoga and working out.  “So whatever I did, I feel like I did right,” Tish Cyrus concluded on the lifestyle of Miley Cyrus.

No one doubts that Miley Cyrus will keep on speaking her personal and artistic truth, and she’ll never stop sticking up for the mom who gave her gumption and backbone, either.
