68-year-old Reba McEntire took over Blake Shelton’s spot on The Voice as the oldest and most experienced coach in the show’s history. This show is going to get a lot more entertaining! So, how did the premiere go?
How The Voice Functions
The Voice is an American television series that hosts competitions between small artists for the chance to receive a recording contract. Each performance is judged by four various coaches, all well-aversed and talented in music and performance. The auditions begin blind, meaning the judges are turned away from the stage. If they enjoy the performance, the coaches can turn their chairs around to see and claim the artist. Once each coach has claimed their desired contestants, the crews go head to head through various stages of competition until a winner comes out on top. That winner goes home with a signed record label.
Blake Shelton Steps Down
For those who missed it, Blake Shelton surrendered his spot as coach on The Voice. After 12 long years and 23 seasons, the country singer is ready to move his career in a different direction. Blake had been there since the beginning of the show’s creation in 2011. This made him not only the longest-running coach but also the one with the most wins. Despite these historical streaks, all good things must come to an end. He announced he was leaving in October 2022, but that didn’t come to fruition until May 23, 2023, the end of season 23. Who could possibly fill such a wide void?
Reba McEntire Claims Her Chair
Reba, 68 years old, is one of the most well-known faces and names in American media. Only a star as big as herself could fill the hole that Blake Shelton would be leaving. McEntire made her debut on horseback. No, really, she rode a horse to the premiere! Not only that, when she got to her ‘throne,’ she cut a giant red-ribboned bow off of it with comically large scissors. Throughout the premiere, Reba McEntire wore a dazzling crown and held a matching scepter, truly becoming royalty of the show. Barely one episode into Season 24, and Reba is already the queen of The Voice. Her energy and humor are already lighting up the stage and are sure to bring many laughs and smiles.
