Born in Baskin, Louisiana in 1992, 9-year-old Lainey had her first paying gig at the opening of a convenience store in her hometown. “My daddy took me up there — no guitar, no microphone, no nothing — and I just sang a cappella,” she tells the Los Angeles Times. In 2006, Lainey Wilson uploaded her first EP called Country Girls Rule on the now-deserted social platform MySpace. In 2011, Wilson moved to Nashville in a camper where she lived outside a recording studio owned by a family friend. It was here that Lainey Wilson began growing her career the traditional way, by knocking on business doors and performing for small venues. A majority of her work throughout the years has been self-published. It was not until 2018 that Lainey signed a publishing deal with SONY/ATV. Then, a year later in 2019, she signed a record label with the rebound BBR Music Group. Still, it took another two years until Lainey Wilson made a big impact on the country music scene. Despite the slow start, her hard work was destined to pay off.

How Lainey Wilson Made It Big

Finally, in 2020, nearly 10 years after Lainey moved to Nashville, TN, Wilson’s hard work came to fruition. Wilson made her first EP under BBR Music Group which was titled Redneck Hollywood. One of the songs on the extended play is “Things A Man Oughta Know.” This became the singer’s first ever chart topper and spread her name far and wide, giving Lainey Wilson the recognition she finally deserved.

Lainey’s accomplishments and fanbase only grew from this point. Not only was she nominated for countless more rewards, she sold out on concerts, and her songs continued to reach top charts. Most notable of those songs would be “Heart Like A Truck,” released in 2022. Wilson is now known for her distinct style in both music and fashion.
