At 90 years old, Willie Nelson has lived a long and eventful life. A new Paramount Plus docuseries explores the singer’s life. Keep reading for all the details, including how to watch and what the series will cover.

What Is Willie Nelson & Family About?

Willie Nelson was born during the Great Depression. Raised by his grandparents in Texas, he wrote his first song at the tender age of seven. He played music throughout high school but joined the U.S. Navy after graduation.

He was discharged after just nine months due to back problems. Nelson went on to pursue a career in music. He worked as a radio DJ before moving to Nashville in 1960.

Willie Nelson made a name for himself as a songwriter, penning hits that included “Crazy,” made famous by Patsy Cline.

After a few years in Nashville, Nelson released his first album, …And Then I Wrote.

In his long career, Willie Nelson has released over 150 albums. His music was dubbed “outlaw country” due to its departure from traditional country music at the time.

The “Always On My Mind” singer embraced the label in the 1980s, teaming up with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson to form the supergroup The Highwaymen.

Nelson’s professional career has achieved many accolades, including the Country Music Hall of Fame and Kennedy Center Honors. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year.

However, he hasn’t had as much success in his personal life. Nelson has been married four times. In 1990, he made headlines when the IRS seized his assets after claiming the singer owed millions in unpaid taxes.

Willie Nelson released the album The IRS Tapes: Who’ll Buy My Memories? to help pay off the debt.

The docuseries will cover all of Willie Nelson’s professional and personal milestones and setbacks.
