Dolly Parton got risque in garter belts and her birthday suit. Fans fondly remember when the country legend posed for Playboy Magazine in 1978. She appeared on the cover of a men’s publication in the iconic bunny outfit and ears. The magazine also included an interview with the “Jolene” singer.

Dolly broke a lot of rules back in the day. She wasn’t your typical country singer. Dolly was the first country singer to pose for the magazine. In the shocking shoot, she wore lace and garter belts. Dolly posed in mostly lingerie, some of it sheer and revealing her nipples. However, she was adamant about not wanting to pose fully nude.

Country superstar controlled her Playboy shoot

Since Dolly Parton was already a famous country singer, she had complete control of the Playboy shoot. The singer-songwriter set specific parameters for each of her photos. Dolly had complete control over what she wore or didn’t wear. She made it clear that she wasn’t going to get nude.

“I have been asked, back in the day,  but that was so totally not me,” Dolly Parton said, according to her official website. “I would never do that… But that was a good article they ran in there, and it was just a fun thing to do.  That was just another way I was trying to market myself, at that time, to kinda get into the mainstream…”

She also posed in various lingerie styles. Dolly leaned against a wall in a red teddy with a matching robe, heeled shoes, and stockings. She also wore a daring black teddy and an animal print dress with a high slit.

Did Dolly Parton ever pose nude?

Dolly Parton refused to show her body to the magazine’s readers and never did a fully nude shoot. However, she did pose nude inside her outdoor bathtub at her Tennesse Mountain home in 1987. Since it was her birthday, she wanted to do something fun without making it revealing. During that time, Dolly reached Hollywood status with the success of her film, 9 to 5.

So, she took a dip in her bathtub and had someone snap the photo. She shared this very photo back in October 2021, when she declared “It’s Fall Y’all.” Fans were in love with the throwback shot, which featured her naked but covered body behind a wooden hot tub.

Recreates iconic Playboy shoot

In July 2021, Dolly Parton put a smile on people’s faces when she recreated her 1978 Playboy cover in honor of her husband Carl Thomas Dean’s birthday. They’ve been married since 1966. She dressed up in black bunny ears and a black bustier with gloves and a pink bowtie.

The actress took to Instagram to share that it was her husband’s birthday. She wanted to do something special that would make him happy. Dolly shared that Carl still thinks she’s a “hot chick after 57 years” of marriage. So, she wasn’t going to argue with that.
