Kacey Musgraves has a lot of stories to tell due to her career in country music. Arguably, some of the most interesting stories she can tell are about touring with the legendary Willie Nelson. Even though that tour is long over, the “Three Little Birds” singer has just started revealing the secrets she and the “Red Headed Stranger” share.

Kacey Musgraves Smoked With Willie Nelson

It is unknown just how many country music singers have gone on tour with Willie Nelson and gotten high with him. The “Always On My Mind” singer is famous for use of marijuana and his generous nature when it comes to sharing it. Kacey Musgraves is just one of who-knows-how-many singers have gotten high with Willie Nelson.

Kacey Musgraves has opened up about her time with Willie Nelson. She admits she was part of the antics on the Willie Nelson tour bus after a concert.

“I’ve smoked with Willie a lot,” Kacey Musgraves admitted. “We were on tour together, and actually, it was early on, it was such an insane tour. It was me, and then Alison Krauss and Willie Nelson. Insane line-up, it was so cool.”

How High Was She?

It is difficult to know for sure just how high Kacey Musgraves was with Willie Nelson. Although she was high enough to ask a big favor of the “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys” singer.

“We went up to the bus, I was like so high I broke through the space fabric. I was like, I’m not even here anymore,” Kacey Musgraves explained. “Alison Krauss was on the bus, Dan Tyminski, all these amazing players. And I was like ‘Hey, Willie, do you ever do that song ‘Are You Sure?’”

Kacey Musgraves continued to relive the conversation. “And he goes, ‘Are you sure this is where you wanna be?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, that song.’ He’s like, ‘Do you wanna record it? And I was like, ‘Uh, okay.’…He’s like, ‘Alright, well I’ll sing it with you.’ And I don’t know, out of a cloud of smoke, I don’t know where it came from, he just pulls his guitar out of nowhere and just starts strumming it…I was geeking out so hard.”

Kacey Musgraves Framed Willie Nelson’s “Special Gift”

Despite her antics on Willie Nelson’s tour bus, she was not having such a good time she was unable to make at least one good decision. In fact, some would probably say the decision she made was excellent.

Willie Nelson rolled up her “special gift.” Instead of smoking all of it, she decided to keep part of it. Kacey Musgraves actually saved it. She went as far as to frame it, as a keepsake of her tour with Willie Nelson.

“That’s in my house, on a shelf,” Kacey Musgraves explained. He like twisted one up for us, he was like, ‘Now you kids enjoy this on the road.’ And so we all smoked half of it with him, and we kinda put it out and I was like I’m saving that.”
