In a recent interview, Tyler Hubbard, one-half of the country music duo Florida Georgia Line, opened up about the reasons behind the group’s surprising breakup in 2022. Hubbard and his bandmate Brian Kelley had been making music together for over a decade, churning out hit after hit and building a devoted fanbase. So, what led to the end of this successful partnership?
Florida Georgia Line’s Nashville Restaurant Abruptly Closes
In addition to making country music hits, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley opened a Nashville restaurant together. FGL House opened in 2017, one of the first bars in Nashville bearing the name of a country music star.
Bars connected to artists such as Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, and Garth Brooks have since opened in downtown Nashville. A bar owned by Morgan Wallen will open over Memorial Day weekend.
The congested bar scene on Broadway in Nashville is down one watering hole. Florida Georgia Line’s FGL House abruptly closed last week. It was one of the last few strings connecting the former bandmates.
According to The Tennessean, country’s hottest acts of the moment, Lainey Wilson, is slated to take over the space this summer with her Bell Bottoms Up venue.
Tyler Hubbard Reveals Truth Behind Florida Georgia Line Breakup
Rumors swirled for months that the popular duo was splitting up. However, it wasn’t officially confirmed until early 2022. Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard performed their last concert as Florida Georgia Line in September of that same year.
In a new interview with the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, Tyler Hubbard shared more about how the breakup happened. According to Hubbard, the band’s demise was initiated by Kelley. “BK came to me and said, ‘Man, I’m really feeling like I want to do a solo thing.'”
He said the conversation was “unexpected,” especially because they’d finally found the success they’d been trying to find for over a decade.
Despite his own misgivings, Tyler Hubbard agreed. “I wanted to support him. He was adamant,” he explained.
The two have since focused on their respective solo careers. Brian Kelley recently shut down the hope of a reunion, at least for now.
Tyler Hubbard said, “some healing would have to be done” before the duo could reunite and make music together again. However, he stopped short of saying Florida Georgia Line would never get back together.
The breakup of Florida Georgia Line is the end of an era in country music. But rather than mourning the loss of the duo, fans should be excited to see what Hubbard and Kelley accomplish as solo artists.
And who knows? Maybe someday down the road, we’ll see an FGL reunion. But for now, the future is bright for these two country superstars.
