After using American Idol to launch her career, Kelly Clarkson never forgot about her love for television even as she sold 12 million albums worldwide and won two Grammy Awards. With a powerful voice that only gets stronger with age, the singer continued to expand her legacy, taking a spot on another hit show, The Voice.

Standing alongside icons like Blake Shelton, John Legend, and Gwen Stefani, it seemed like a dream job for Clarkson. That was until she suddenly exited the show while continuing to helm The Kelly Clarkson Show. Now, the singer is finally opening up about her time on The Voice and what made her decide to leave.

Before Kelly Clarkson departed The Voice, her personal life took center stage when she and her husband, Brandon Blackstock, decided to divorce.

Moving To The Big Apple

Refusing to let the split get her down, Kelly Clarkson decided it was time for a change of scenery as she sold her $5.4 million mansion for a cozy spot in New York City. While the city is known for never sleeping, it is also the home to The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Speaking with USA Today about her shift to the East Coast, Clarkson claimed, “I feel like a weight has lifted. That move was very needed. I think the thing I’m most excited about with Season 5, on a selfish level, is just showing up to work smiling and actually meaning it. That’s a beautiful gift that you don’t realize until you’re out of it.”

While looking forward to the future, Kelly Clarkson recalled the breaking point for her, which came when she struggled to smile. “I’ve learned a lot about what I’m capable of handling, and also what you should not handle. That was me saying ‘bye’ to ‘The Voice’ and having this big move. I love that family, but I was like, ‘I’m struggling. I can’t smile anymore.'”

Kelly Clarkson Gets Warm Welcome At 30 Rockefeller Center

Thrilled to see Kelly Clarkson herself once again, the Season 5 premiere of her show pulled out all the stops with her singing her new song “I Won’t Give Up.”

And that was just the start as other celebrities like Savannah Guthrie, Lester Holt, Al Roker, and Andy Cohen welcomed the star to NBC studios. “It is so great to finally be back on the air. We get to do our show again. And from our new home, this is such an iconic building, 30 Rockefeller Center. I can’t believe I got to not only move here but work from here. It is such a blessing,” Clarkson gushed about her new home.
