In a new interview, Jason Aldean addresses his feud with Maren Morris and shares his thoughts on how country music has changed. Keep reading for all the details.
Jason Aldean Reflects On Almost 20 Years In Music Industry
Jason Aldean has been a staple in country music for almost 20 years. He got his big break in 2005 when his first single, “Hicktown,” made the top 10 on the Billboard country charts. During his long career, he’s released almost 40 singles, over half of which reached #1 on the country charts.
Aldean has been nominated for five Grammy awards, though he has yet to win.
Controversy surrounding his 2023 song “Try That in a Small Town” gave Aldean his first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2023.
He recently completed his High Desperado tour and spoke to the Los Angeles Times this week to promote the album of the same name.

Defends ‘Try That In A Small Town’
The lyrics of “Try That in a Small Town,” combined with the violent riot imagery from the video, were the perfect recipe for controversy. The video was filmed in front of a courthouse in Tennessee that was the site of a 1927 lynching.
During his interview with the Times, Aldean confirms he didn’t know the history but points out that the courthouse has been used before.
“But there’s been a ton of things shot there and it was never brought up. Then all of a sudden, our video comes out. People were trying to find something where there was nothing,” Aldean said about the courthouse.
Not everyone had an issue with “Try That in a Small Town.” After the video was pulled from CMT, politicians and other musicians were just a few of the people defending it.
Of the support, Jason Aldean said, “I appreciated that they understood where I was coming from on the song. I think it resonated with middle America, working-class America.”
Some people have given Aldean flack because the singer didn’t grow up in a small town, nor does he currently live in one. However, he addresses that allegation in the profile piece, saying that he “grew up on the outskirts” of Macon, Georgia, which is hardly a small town with a population of over 100,000 people.
Jason Aldean Addresses Maren Morris Feud
Country singer Maren Morris is one of the people who spoke out against “Try That in a Small Town.” She also has a history with Jason Aldean’s wife, Brittany.
In 2022, Brittany Aldean made a joke on social media that many considered transphobic. The former American Idol contestant thanked her parents for not changing her gender during her tomboy phase.
Maren Morris responded with the diss, “F**k all the way off to Insurrection Barbie.” Morris was recently in the headlines for something else – she is divorcing Ryan Hurd after five years of marriage.
According to Jason Aldean, he didn’t know Maren Morris before she started feuding with his wife. “I don’t know her at all, truly,” he said of the country singer. He went on to say that’s why he found the feud “weird.”
“This chick’s coming after us, and I’ve never even talked to her before. Yet she claimed to know so much about me and my wife somehow.” – Jason Aldean, Los Angeles Times.
Since he doesn’t know Maren Morris, Aldean said, “I don’t really have an opinion about her.”
However, he did share his opinion of former President Donald Trump. ” I like Trump. Hung out with him a couple times — been very cool to me. I have nothing but good things to say about the guy.”
